Biography of Jean Dewasne
Jean Dewasne was born in Lille in 1921. He is considered as one of the masters of constructive abstraction. In 1950 with Edgar Pillet, he sets up the abstract art workshop in Paris. After thorough classical and musical studies, Jean Dewasne registers at the Fine Arts Instituute in Paris where during two years he first goes around architect's studios before moving towards painting. His first exhibit takes place in 1941. Two years later, the artist realizes his first abstract artwork. In 1945, together with Hans Hartung, Nicolas de Staël, Serge Poliakoff and Hans Jean Arp, Deswane militates passionately for abstraction. In 1945, he is involved in the setting of the Réalités Nouvelles Show. Mostly in the seventies, the artist creates major works. In 1991, he is elected member of the Fine Arts Academy in Hans Hartung's seat. Jean Dewasne dies in 1999. He was 78.
