Notes of biography

"Write a word or draw a line, the goal is same: to achieve freedom" says Renaud Allirand.Born in Anthony (near Paris) in 1970, Renaud Allirand now divides his time between the Marais (Paris) and the tranquility of Gâtinais in Ondreville-sur-Essonne. He exhibits his paintings, engravings and photographs since 1995; in parallel, he realizes drawings under the pseudonym Dip. Multifaceted artist, two in one!
Although always been fascinated by engraving, Renaud Allirand waits ten long years before buying his first plate of copper. He devotes the first part of his artistic life to paint and produce inks of China. The artist is in search of his true path.
To express one’s thoughts differently, to write without the words being read, to find a personal style, sincere, phrases to speak his fears and seek his truths, words imprinted sometimes with violence but always with passion; in 2002, etching becomes indispensable and the adventure begins.
Allirand is fully committed (in the fullest sense of the word); he has no experience in this area, but he is, from his first pulling, encouraged by the printer Rene Taze, “taille-doucier” and master in the world of engraving. This latter comes often relax in his house of Ondreville.
Same place to take again a breath, an absolute passion, knowledge to pass on!
The young engraver lays out his innermost thoughts on the copper matrix. The style is concise and rigorous; the scratches are austere but full of imagination. Playing with light and transparency, with passion and hope, Allirand works the black. The technique of etching appears later. One should not be deceived; the abstraction is only at the first glance, each one has to rediscover nature, refuge and inspiration.
Since 2002, Renaud Allirand participates in numerous group exhibitions and several solo exhibitions have shown his work: BNF (Paris), International Salon of Prints and Drawing at the Grand Palace, St'Art in Strasbourg, San Francisco Fine Print Fair, French Institute in Morocco, Museum of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, Museum of Saint-Maur, Raymond Lafage Museum, Jean-Francois Millet’s Workshop-Museum (Barbizon), National School of Arts and Crafts in Tetuan (Morocco) Museum of small Format (Viroinval, Belgium), Florean Museum (Romania), Palace of Fine Arts in Brussels, Americas Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary Prints (Austin, Texas, USA), World stamps and original engraving (Chamalières), Salon of Montrouge, Salon of New Realities, Salon of Autumn, etc. Public acquisitions of his work are performed regularly and the artist receives many awards (note especially his Lacourière Mention to the Prize 2006 awarded by the Foundation of France and the BNF and the Prize of Young Engraving Salon of Autumn in 2008).
One can note also that Renaud Allirand has published several books, including  « Miroirs d’ombres » et « Traces » (text by Jacques Robinet), « Au nord des choses, Et pourquoi pas l‘éternité ? » (Text by Jacques Lesot), « Terre d’oubli » (text by Santiago Agudo), « Mots Passants », « Vivre ».
"From close to open and from the outside to the most intimate, the works of Renaud Allirand constantly scan the visible to interpret it. A strange combination of alchemy of dream and reality gives birth to a new world before our eyes. Agreeing to enter in this world is to deny the nostalgia of lost paradises and recognize that beauty is still to be invented "writes Jacques Robinet.

Artists on display

The art and the artists display: proclamations, galleries, museums, personal or collective exhibitions. On walls or in shop windows, wise or rebels, posters warn, argue, show. Some were specially conceived by an artist for such or such event, other, colder, have only the letter.

Some were created in lithographic technic, most are simple offset reproductions. They are many those who like collecting these rectangles of paper, monochrome or in games of colours, in matt paper or brilliant, with many words or almost dumb.

We are happy also to be able to greet, by this pages, mythical galleries as those of Denise René, Louis Carré, Claude Bernard, Berheim Jeune, Maeght, Pierre Loeb and others.
