Biography of Wim Wenders
The famous German director (approximately 30 films), producer, screenwriter and photographer Wilhelm Ernst Wenders, named Wim Wenders, is born in 1945 in Düsseldorf. Wim Wenders is not only the acknowledged filmmaker we known, but also a photographer and an engraver (he worked in the Sixties in Paris in the workshop of Johnny Friedlaender). After studying medicine and philosophy, he enters (1968) in the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen in Munich. He is considered a major representative of the New German Cinema of the 1960-1970. He creates his own production company in 1974. In 1977, he is invited by Francis Ford Coppola to come to the United States in order to shoot a film about the author Dashiell Hammett. In 1984, he receives the Golden Palm (Palme d'Or) at Cannes for his film "Paris, Texas"; this film, with "Wings of Desire" (1987), is one of the biggest commercial success of Wim Wenders. Also director of "Buena Vista Social Club", his documentary on the music captures the attention of the public. Wim Wenders is awarded the cultural prize of the German Society of Photography in 2003 and becomes in 2006 the first director to be awarded the Order of Merit.
