    Biography of Roger Bertemes

    Roger Bertemes was born in 1927 in Boevange (Ardennes, Luxembourg). He is meant to a career in teaching and after
    his studies becomes a professor in 1947. He studies etching in Johnny Friedlaender’s atelier aand right away proves to be extremely gifted. The artist wants to remain a teacher and his booklet for the association « L’art à l’Ecole » (« The art at school ») is essential in teaching art to kids. In 1961, his art will be finally recognized. Hardworking, humble, discreet and commited, Roger Bertemes will be interested in all the aspects of creation : painting, watercolor, ink, etching, screenprint, illustrated book (he will be called the « poets’painter »), sculpture, stained glass... His progression will naturally lead him to abstraction, his plastic work influencing the artistic creation in Luxembourg for 50 years. Roger
    Bertemes left us in November 2006.
