Born in Ostende in 1860, James Ensor barely leaves his hometown. He is a member of early XXth century vanguard movements and realizes expressionist works. In 1877, he registers at the Fine Arts Academy in Brussels. He is introduced to the artistic and intellectual scene. Quickly, Ensor fights against academicism.
