Biography of Gudmundur Erro
Gudmundur Guomundsson who takes the pseudonym Ferro then Erro, is born in Olafsvik (Iceland) in 1932. At the age of ten, the child becomes fascinated by the works of art reproduced in a catalog of the Museum of Modern Art in New York; from that time, the painting becomes for him the passion and vocation of his entire life. He studies art (1949-1956) in Reykjavik, then in Oslo (Norway) and in Italy (Florence and Ravenna). His first solo exhibition is held in Milan in 1956.
In 1958, the young artist moves to Paris, where he meets artists and writers associated with Surrealism (Breton, Roberto Matta, Victor Brauner, André Masson, Max Ernst, Man Ray, Joan Miro and Duchamp). His creation is multiple. Erro paints, but he is also interested in graphic arts, writes books, makes the setting for movies, makes films, takes part in "artistic intervention" and other "happenings" (including "The Reviews of art" in 1963, "Gold Water " the following year).During the 60s, Erro makes the acquaintance of Pontus Hulten, the famous museum curator, who takes him under his wing. Over the years, Erro participates in hundreds of exhibitions, and his art is today present in most worldwide major museums, specially the Pompidou Center (Paris). Often working in series and in a provocative manner, the plastic universe of Erro combines cartoon characters in particular, despots’ faces. Erro makes, in 1989, a large donation of works of art and personal archives to the Reykjavik Art Museum.

Artists on display
The art and the artists display: proclamations, galleries, museums, personal or collective exhibitions. On walls or in shop windows, wise or rebels, posters warn, argue, show. Some were specially conceived by an artist for such or such event, other, colder, have only the letter.
Some were created in lithographic technic, most are simple offset reproductions. They are many those who like collecting these rectangles of paper, monochrome or in games of colours, in matt paper or brilliant, with many words or almost dumb.
We are happy also to be able to greet, by this pages, mythical galleries as those of Denise René, Louis Carré, Claude Bernard, Berheim Jeune, Maeght, Pierre Loeb and others.
