Biography of Franz Roth
Swiss painter and draughtsman Franz Roth was born in 1956 in the canton of Berne. He graduated from the Biel School of Fine Arts, which gave him the necessary background to express his creativity. On the road since early childhood, accompanying his father selling Swiss cheeses in Italy, he developed a real passion for travel. During these frequent peregrinations, he discovered art, making a habit of visiting museums in towns where his father and son were passing through. Very early on, he drew inspiration from his travels and the beauty of everyday life to create works with a celestial allure. Sea, desert, green landscapes ... he observes the divine dimension of every moment, of every space. The artist draws us into his fantastic world, teeming with characters, animals and colors. In 1975, Franz Roth left for Mexico, where he met lithographer Leo Acosta, for whom he worked for seven years in his printing studio. A few years later, he returned to his native country, leaving again in 1986.He then traveled to India (where he lived from 1984 to 1986), discovering its procession of deities at every street corner, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, the United States (San Francisco), and then on to Mexico to settle in Real de Catorce (San Luis Potosi), a sort of ghost village. This is the place he chose to commune with nature, withdrawn from the world, and he is now immersed in his reflection on divine manifestations and the role of the sacred in everyday life. This Mexican experience has given him close contact with sacred animals and magical skies in the Tarahumara sierra, on the sacred mountain of the Huichole Indians. When looking at his work, it is always possible to invoke Marc Chagall, Jérôme Bosch, Léonard de Vinci and others, as well as Surrealism. The celestial dimension of his art can be found in his experiences: discovery, love, war, affairs, memories, bullfighting, boxing, bars, the relationships he forms; it takes an eternal turn, approached by the artist with undeniable generosity and pure simplicity. Franz Roth reveals himself to be a precise observer and a dazzling storyteller, always observing reality with an eye to the outer world, as well as the inner world, a mystical gaze.He tells stories of another kind of everyday life, bringing back to our troubled times a little of the poetry of another world. However, despite his travels, these places remain far from his homeland and Franz Roth has always maintained close ties with Switzerland, and will eventually choose to return. After his first solo exhibition in Mexico in 1977, Franz Roth has exhibited regularly over the years in numerous galleries (Switzerland, Mexico, USA, Denmark, France).

Artists on display
The art and the artists display: proclamations, galleries, museums, personal or collective exhibitions. On walls or in shop windows, wise or rebels, posters warn, argue, show. Some were specially conceived by an artist for such or such event, other, colder, have only the letter.
Some were created in lithographic technic, most are simple offset reproductions. They are many those who like collecting these rectangles of paper, monochrome or in games of colours, in matt paper or brilliant, with many words or almost dumb.
We are happy also to be able to greet, by this pages, mythical galleries as those of Denise René, Louis Carré, Claude Bernard, Berheim Jeune, Maeght, Pierre Loeb and others.
