Daniel Spoerri is born in Galati (Romania) in 1930. After the execution of his father by the Nazis, his family flies to Switzerland in 1942. He meets Jean Tinguely in Basel in 1949. Spoerri becomes a dancer at the Opera of Bern at first, and then dedicates to the theater as scene-director-actor, mime and decorator. He moves to Paris in 1959, creating the editions MAT, invents his first "trap-cavenas”, offering an unusual way of everyday objects amassed in his hotel room; this work leads naturally to join the group of New Realistic during his formation in 1960. Daniel Spoerri always continues in his transfiguration efforts of reality. In 1963 the artist, in contact with George Maciunas and Fluxus, begins collecting meals at the Gallery J. He opens a restaurant in Düsseldorf (1968), serving dishes he prepares himself; he creates an Eat-Art Gallery in where he invites customers and artists to make piece of edible works (gingerbread characters by Richard Lindner, sugar-candies by Caesar, etc.). Spoerri becomes famous by performing "trap-cavenas” designed from the meals’ remains of his customers. The artist always goes further in the concept of evacuation of all creativity, executing some of his works in the patent by third parties, paintings bearing his signature. In 1972, the National Center of Contemporary Art in Paris devotes to him a retrospective. Accumulating, inventorying, Daniel Spoerri gets interested in the gap that arises between the topic chosen and the technique used, addressing various topics affecting man; he depicts the everyday in order to grasp the reality of poetry, caught in a glance often tinged with humor, loving to mix genres and senses (sight, smell, touch), to transmute the real.

Artists on display
The art and the artists display: proclamations, galleries, museums, personal or collective exhibitions. On walls or in shop windows, wise or rebels, posters warn, argue, show. Some were specially conceived by an artist for such or such event, other, colder, have only the letter.
Some were created in lithographic technic, most are simple offset reproductions. They are many those who like collecting these rectangles of paper, monochrome or in games of colours, in matt paper or brilliant, with many words or almost dumb.
We are happy also to be able to greet, by this pages, mythical galleries as those of Denise René, Louis Carré, Claude Bernard, Berheim Jeune, Maeght, Pierre Loeb and others.
