Stamp by Mireille Andelu
fictional stamp
The publication of a postal stamp is often a homage paid by a nation to a place, an event, a remarkable cause or a character which count. The painters and other artists do not escape from this rule. Some are however "forgotten" of postal art. Here, gathered below (French or foreign), emitted stamps (206) or simple studies of stamp (224) in homage to the artists represented on our website. The first French stamp was emitted in 1849, England preceded us by ten years. There is often a share of voyage in this small form of shape paper. The stamp circulates, sails, flies away, it makes dream, then dream a little. M.C.
When the stamp is really emitted, the artist name is preceded of an asterisk (*).
It is certain that we do not know each stamp emitted for such or such artist; do not hesitate with us to make known them!

Notes of biography
In 1989, Andelu take for artist name the name of the village, close to Versailles, where she was born. Self-taught artist, she learns art progressively from the artists she associates with. Thus, after debuting in ceramics, Henri Goetz initiates her to copper-plate engraving and carborundum printmaking which he invented. During twelve years, between 1968 and 1980, Andelu works with the painter James Coignard, one of the Masters in carborundum technique, taking part in the pulling processes of the Master carborundum printmakings.
In the early 80s, Andelu creates drawings for fabrics and paints her first canvases. She undertakes a work on printmaking as from 1989, and realizes since this date, many carborundum printmaking that she pulls on a press; one will at most notice that her prints are always small, 30/40 prints for each engraving.
In parallel, the artist develops a mixed technique on fabric and paper, with however a marked preference for this last support which she considers “more alive”. Andelu works by topics, over periods from 2 to 3 years; as follows, the artist explores “the lines of Nazca” after she was amazed by the discovery of the high plateaux of Nazca in Peru, “the apples”, “the cows”, “the mutants”, “the dogs”, “Around the wind”, “the men upright”, “the men flying”. The first exhibition of the artist is held in Paris (Flatotel International) in 1990. Since then, she takes part in many collective exhibitions in France and abroad and regularly exhibits her art on individual galleries (France, Italy, Japan, Germany, etc).
Follower of the experimentation, the work of Andelu is made of contrasts, bright colors, textures, matters lengthily elaborated and worked, the artist does not hesitate to express herself by the means of various and varied medias. Andelu suggests a dialogue between poetry and painting. Passionate about traveling, she draws her inspiration from her journeys, Andelu is currently living and working in Vallauris, in the south of France.
Artists on display
The art and the artists display: proclamations, galleries, museums, personal or collective exhibitions. On walls or in shop windows, wise or rebels, posters warn, argue, show. Some were specially conceived by an artist for such or such event, other, colder, have only the letter.
Some were created in lithographic technic, most are simple offset reproductions. They are many those who like collecting these rectangles of paper, monochrome or in games of colours, in matt paper or brilliant, with many words or almost dumb.
We are happy also to be able to greet, by this pages, mythical galleries as those of Denise René, Louis Carré, Claude Bernard, Berheim Jeune, Maeght, Pierre Loeb and others.
