Some are however "forgotten" of postal art. Here, gathered below (French or foreign), emitted stamps (206) or simple studies of stamp (224) in homage to the artists represented on our website. The first French stamp was emitted in 1849, England preceded us by ten years. There is often a share of voyage in this small form of shape paper. The stamp circulates, sails, flies away, it makes dream, then dream a little. M.C.

Sa santé défaillante ne permit pas à Ben Nicholson de travailler sur de grandes oeuvres pendant les dix dernières années de sa vie. Ben Nicholson s’éteint le 6 février 1982 à Londres, il avait 87 ans. Selon ses voeux, les cendres de l’artiste ont été mises en terre, sous une pelouse du Golders Green Crematorium de Londres (Section 2-G). En hommage à sa mémoire, un simple chardon.

Notes of biography
Ben Nicholson was born in 1894 in Denham, England. He was born into a family and a world entirely dedicated to art. Ben Nicholson had a vision… of a semester at the Slade School in London then of traveling to Paris, Spain, the United States, and designing.
The 1920’s will be his most important period of experimentation. His first solo exhibition is organized in 1922 in London. He does his first engravings in1926. Ben Nicholson is one of the premiere avant-garde artists of the 30’s. The artist combines abstraction and figurative work in a pure and poetic geometry. Ben Nicholson declares “Painting and a religious experience is the same thing”. He becomes a member of the Creative Abstraction in 1933, of Unit One in 1934 and with Naum Gabo, co-founds the magazine ‘Circle’ from 1935-37, through by which he two artists can promote the unity of art with life.
From 1930-33, the works of Nicholson are strongly influenced by cubism, notably the works of Braque. In 1933 the artist produces his ‘White Relief’s’ of geometric forms. The sculptor Barbara Hepworth will be his wife from 1932-1951. They become friends with Jean Arp and Sophie Tauter-Arp. The couple moves to Saint Ives in Cornouailles in 1939; they are attracted by the numerous artists around them during the war. During this period, Ben Nicholson, paints figurative canvases, mainly views of the port, village or the countryside around St. Ives.
After the war, the artist resumes some of his large scale still-lives of objects with linear and geometric forms. He moves to Switzerland for several years. In the 60’s, Nicholson executes monumental cut relief’s that are cut up, sculpted and painted. He moves once again to England in 1971. Ben Nicholson resumes his painted objects and gouaches on paper.
Ben Nicholson will produce extremely refined works, recognizable to everyone, works shown in the collections of the greatest international museums. Ben Nicholson died in London in 1982.

The art and the artists display: proclamations, galleries, museums, personal or collective exhibitions. On walls or in shop windows, wise or rebels, posters warn, argue, show. Some were specially conceived by an artist for such or such event, other, colder, have only the letter.
Some were created in lithographic technic, most are simple offset reproductions. They are many those who like collecting these rectangles of paper, monochrome or in games of colours, in matt paper or brilliant, with many words or almost dumb.
