Some are however "forgotten" of postal art. Here, gathered below (French or foreign), emitted stamps (206) or simple studies of stamp (224) in homage to the artists represented on our website. The first French stamp was emitted in 1849, England preceded us by ten years. There is often a share of voyage in this small form of shape paper. Le docteur Nicoleau conduit le sculpteur dans sa voiture ; victime d'un accident alors qu'il revient de rendre visite à Raoul Dufy à Vernet-les-Bains, blessé grièvement à la mâchoire, Aristide Joseph Bonaventure Maillol est transporté chez les Petites Sœurs où il écrit ses dernières pensées dans un cahier d'écolier. Il décède, chez lui, le 27 septembre 1944 à Banyuls-sur-Mer (Pyrénées-Orientales, Roussillon), laissant inachevée sa dernière oeuvre, Harmonie. Enraciné dans sa terre, Maillol était né dans cette même petite ville côtière, 83 ans auparavant. Son ancienne maison, « la Métairie », est aujourd'hui un musée dédié à son œuvre. En hommage à sa mémoire, un chardon bleu des Pyrénées qu’il observa sûrement au cours de ses longues marches silencieuses.

Notes of biography
Aristide Maillol was born in 1861 in Banyuls-sur-Mer, France. He is 20 years old when he moves to Paris. After having taken drawing classes until 1885, he is admitted to the School of Fine Arts in Paris from1885-1893. Friend of Gauguin, he starts to sculpt in 1895. In the second half of the 90’s, Aristide Maillol makes tapestries and paints in the Nabi style. Following, throughout his long artistic career, Maillol works in a timeless style, without referring to different avant-garde movements, the artist likes to say "I work as if nothing exists, as if I don’t understand anything. I am the first man to do sculpture".
His first solo exhibition is organized in 1902. Aristide Maillol regularly exhibits at the Salon d’Automne from 1904. In 1913 he participates in the Armory Show of New York.
Maillol works principally on studies of the human body, attaching to the harmony of forms, to their architectural equilibrium. The artist essentially sculpts large nude females and large bosoms, in all positions (standing, sitting, lying down), naked, draped, sometimes clothed; his works, smooth and purified, are allegories of the flesh that represent the seasons, the days, the sentiments, the elements; these personages can be nymphs or simply women busy with daily life.
From the beginning of the century (1900), Aristide Maillol produces numerous monumental public works, for example the "Auguste Blanqui Monument". After the First World War, the local municipal officer passes him numerous commands to make monuments to the dead (Ceret, Elne, Port-Vendres and Banyuls, his hometown).
A nice ensemble of his works has been installed today in the gardens of the Louvre and the Carrousel in Paris. A free man, Maillol dared everything; he must be considered as one of the founders of modern sculpture.
Aristide Maillol died in 1944 in Banyuls-sur-Mer.

The art and the artists display: proclamations, galleries, museums, personal or collective exhibitions. On walls or in shop windows, wise or rebels, posters warn, argue, show. Some were specially conceived by an artist for such or such event, other, colder, have only the letter.
Some were created in lithographic technic, most are simple offset reproductions. They are many those who like collecting these rectangles of paper, monochrome or in games of colours, in matt paper or brilliant, with many words or almost dumb.
