NEW-DADAISM

1950-1960

The artists in this group have Dada and Marcel Duchamp as references. They refuse to draw a line between art and life, so that they favor artistic subjects that include everyday objects and, more generally, the world around them. And isn’t waste the most apt representation of that world? So, they include rubbish and scraps of all sorts in their works (junk sculpture), etc... According to Rauschenberg’s comment: “A painting looks more like the real world when it is part of the real world.” The artists belonging to Fluxus are often included in Neo-Dadaism. These artists, in varying degrees, all cast a critical, suspicious, often ironic eye on the art world and its apathy, and carefully stay away from it.
