FUTURISM

1909-1916

Futurism is a movement of antitraditionaliste thought. It was officially born with the publication of an article by the poet, painter and polemicist Filippo Tommaso Marinetti (1876-1944) in 1909 in Le Figaro: "Destroy the museums, the cemeteries; a work of art must be aggressive. . . one race car is more beautiful than the "Victory of Samothrace." The movement is booming brilliant brilliant in Italy until 1916 and developed in literature, theater, cinema, music, architecture, sculpture and painting. The artists Umberto Boccioni, Giacomo Balla, Luigi Russolo and Gino Severini published "The Technical Manifesto of Futurist painting" in 1910. They express themselves in the journal "Lacerba" and organize exhibitions in European capitals. Looking to the future, painters praise a reassuring world of technology, modernity and speed that passionated them. They represent in their works the trepidation of urban life, modern work and the dynamism of the machine. The theoretical content of this movement becomes insipid during the fascism time.
