Biography of Tilman
Tilman is born in Munich (Germany) in 1959. He studies in Munich, at the "Akademie der Bildenden Künste" and at the "Fachoberschule für Gestaltung und Design". Through his faceted work, the artist engages a dialogue between form and color that has its roots in the tradition of the art built; the bright colors which the artist uses however marks a distance with the issues of minimalism. Besides drawing and painting, TTilman produces minimalist painting-objects, using lacquer, aluminum and plexiglas. Tilman is part of an artists’ family who, in an experimental record, seeks personal researches on the path of "non-objective" art. Each develops and pursues his own approach in the expression of abstraction, attaches special significance to the retinal perception, sensual and physical, and the relationship between the viewer, architecture and the works of art, anchoring in its time and environment. There is often a playful dimension in Tilman’s works. The artist participates in the design and implementation of the "Minimalpop" Exhibition that includes the movement at the Florence Lynch Gallery in New York in 2004. The artist divides his time between Brussels and New York.
