Biography of Yuri Kuper
Yuri Kuper is born in Moscow in 1940. He completes his studies at the Academy of Art in Moscow (1957-1963). The artist becomes a member of the Union of Russian Artists in 1967. He is 32 years old when he decides, in the first place, to emigrate to Israel, then settles in London (1972). The following year, the young artist receives a scholarship to study from the Yaddo art group in Saratoga Springs (USA). He publishes a novel in New York ("Sacred Fools in Moscow", 1974). In 1975, Yuri Kuper decides to live in Paris, he becomes a British citizen in 1983. The artist exhibits in many countries (Russia, Israel, England, Germany, USA, Sweden, etc.). In France, one may note that the Claude Bernard Gallery presented his work three times (1983, 1985, 1988). His work is in major museum collections (the Moscow Pushkin Museum, Staatliche Museen Preussischer Kulterbesitz of Berlin, Museum of Modern Art in New York, National Contemporary Art Fonds in Paris, Oslo National Gallery, National Library of Washington Congress or the Metropolitan Museum in New York).
