Biography of Pauline Clancy
Pauline Clancy is a PhD researcher, designer, printmaker and lecturer based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Born in 1978 and originally from Co. Leitrim, Ireland, her practice explores the relationship between language and typography and is primarily realised through the screenprinting process. Approaches include how experimental typography can be used as a means to generate typographic images where cropped elements and overprinted areas create other abstract forms simultaneously examining the materiality of language. While finished artefacts are important, the experimental/making process is of equal importance, where the process also becomes the outcome. In 2006 she graduated with a BDes (Hons) Visual Communication from the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) Dublin. In 2013 she graduated with MFA in Multidisciplinary Design (Graphic Design) from Ulster University. She has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. Recent group exhibitions include Empreinte International Print Exhibition Luxembourg and recent joint exhibition includesTypographic DNA of Place Galleria di Academia Belle Arti, Perugia, Italy. Her work is in collections including the Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum, Wisconsin, USA and Manchester Metropolitan University Special Collections of Artists’ Books. The artist has a real passion for the book, and she participated in several important events in this area (Vercelli, Vilnius, etc.). She is also a member of the International Society of Typographic Designers.
Pauline Clancy is a fervent admirer of artists like Karel Martens and HN Werkman, artists from the Netherlands, Elaine Lustig Cohen (USA), and famous Russian artists El Lissitzky and Kazimir Malevich.
She works in the the Belfast Print Workshop and has just exhibited in this context on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of this institution in Northern Ireland.

Artists on display
The art and the artists display: proclamations, galleries, museums, personal or collective exhibitions. On walls or in shop windows, wise or rebels, posters warn, argue, show. Some were specially conceived by an artist for such or such event, other, colder, have only the letter.
Some were created in lithographic technic, most are simple offset reproductions. They are many those who like collecting these rectangles of paper, monochrome or in games of colours, in matt paper or brilliant, with many words or almost dumb.
We are happy also to be able to greet, by this pages, mythical galleries as those of Denise René, Louis Carré, Claude Bernard, Berheim Jeune, Maeght, Pierre Loeb and others.
