Jesús-Rafael Soto is born in Ciudad Bolivar (Venezuela) in 1922. First guitarist, he becomes a painter in words and film posters. The young man gets a scholarship, follows the course of Fine Arts in Caracas, teaches during a while in Maracaibo. Stamp by Jesus-Rafael Soto
The publication of a postal stamp is often a homage paid by a nation to a place, an event, a remarkable cause or a character which count. The painters and other artists do not escape from this rule. Some are however "forgotten" of postal art. Here, gathered below (French or foreign), emitted stamps (206) or simple studies of stamp (224) in homage to the artists represented on our website. The first French stamp was emitted in 1849, England preceded us by ten years. There is often a share of voyage in this small form of shape paper. The stamp circulates, sails, flies away, it makes dream, then dream a little. M.C.
When the stamp is really emitted, the artist name is preceded of an asterisk (*). It is certain that we do not know each stamp emitted for such or such artist; do not hesitate with us to make known them!

Remis sur le devant de la scène de l'art par le regain d'intérêt pour l'art cinétique qui s'est opéré au début dans les années 2000, de nouveau célébré pour ses sculptures cinétiques et ses installations à grande échelle, l'artiste vénézuélien Jesús Rafael Soto est décédé dans sa résidence parisienne le 14 janvier 2005 ; il avait décidé que sa tombe se trouverait au cimetière du Montparnasse en souvenir de sa vie parisienne loin de son Venezuela natal. Il avait 81 ans. En son hommage, avec respect, cette fleur de liane.
"A onze ans, j'ai commencé à gagner ma vie en dessinant des lettres et des trucs divers, comme des enseignes pour les magasins. (...) J'ai ensuite obtenu un travail de peintre d'affiches pour un cinéma ; j'arrivais à en produire jusqu'à cinquante par jour, mais en même temps je prenais la liberté de peindre des personnages pour annoncer les grands films." - Jesús-Rafael Soto
