Biography of Russell Young
Russell Young is a british artist born in the north of England in 1960. Raised into a foster home, he was adopted at four months. Early, he took pictures and went to the Chester Art College in Exeter to study photography, film and graphic design with Jack Straw. He moved to London looking for casual work. After months living on the streets, Russell Young was hired to assist the photographer Christos Raftopoulos. In 1987, his career started with the picture of George Michael on the sleeve of his album « Faith ». His focus on celebrity portraiture grew and he took portraits of such musicians as Björk, Springsteen, Dylan, Diana Ross, Paul Newman etc… and diversified into music videos. At this time he is at the height of his fame.Ten years later, he started to paint. His work stayed secret until his first solo exhibition In 2003 (« Pigs Portraits »). Today, Young is a world renowned Pop artist who produces monumental screen-print paintings on linen inspired by imagery of history and popular culture. Russell Young lives and works in California.
