Biography of Milton Glaser
The American graphic designer and typographer Milton Glaser is born in New York in 1929. In 1952-53, he studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, under the direction of Giorgio Morandi. In 1955, he founds "Pushpin graphic", studio design very soon known for his bold approach of graphic and the use of a distinctly contemporary vocabulary design (album covers, books, logos, posters, typography, etc.). He designs and illustrates more than 300 posters, including the famous poster of the Bob Dylan’ s tour in 1967, also available in record cover, that uses the character type "Babyteeth" he invented. Milton Glaser's influence grew and in 1968 he co-founds the magazine "New York Magazine", newspaper covering art and culture. In addition, Milton Glaser creates the logo "I Love New York", logo that becomes part of the American landscape, then becoming popular at a global level. Milton Glaser is in charge, therefore, of several important projects for the reshaping of the image of institution in the United States and abroad (Restaurants of the World Trade Center in New York, Grand Union supermarkets, etc.). Glaser has taught design at the School of Visual Arts in New York in one of the most respected programs in the United States. The Art of Milton Glaser has been the subject of solo exhibitions in major international museums (Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, Lincoln Gallery, New York Gallery, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, etc.). His work is part of the permanent collections of many leading institutions.
Milton Glaser died on June 26, 2020 in New York on his 91st birthday.
