De 1919 à 1969, Pablo Picasso réalisera 434 lithographies originales. Jusqu’en 1930, l’artiste travailla chez différents imprimeurs. Après un silence de 15 années, il pénétra le 2 novembre 1945 dans l’atelier de Fernand Mourlot pour ne plus jamais le quitter. Picasso essaya et employa toutes les techniques de cet art – en les bousculant souvent - : pierre, zinc, crayon, plume, lavis, etc… L’ensemble des catalogues raisonnés des lithographies de Pablo Picasso furent édités par André Sauret ; le plus exhaustif d'entre eux, établi par Fernand Mourlot, parut en 1970.
