Maurice Estève was born Le Cher (Culan) in 1904, he died there at 97 years old. He spent the main part of his childhood in his home town with his grandparents. He became very young passionately fond of art, drawing regularly while he was even not 8 years old! He was 10 years old when he discovered Paris, Le Louvre, Delacroix, Corot and Courbet. He started painting at the age of 11. His vocation . . .

Stamp by Maurice Esteve
The publication of a postal stamp is often a homage paid by a nation to a place, an event, a remarkable cause or a character which count. The painters and other artists do not escape from this rule. Some are however "forgotten" of postal art. Here, gathered below (French or foreign), emitted stamps (206) or simple studies of stamp (224) in homage to the artists represented on our website. The first French stamp was emitted in 1849, England preceded us by ten years. There is often a share of voyage in this small form of shape paper. The stamp circulates, sails, flies away, it makes dream, then dream a little. M.C.

Né en contrebas du château qui impressionnait tant ses yeux d’enfant, Maurice Estève s’éteint le 27 juin 2001 à Culan (Cher) - il avait 97 ans -, son village natal dans lequel il s’était installé définitivement en 1995. L’artiste repose dans le cimetière situé un peu à l’extérieur du village, dans le calme d’un très bel environnement d’arbres et de près. Nous déposons sur sa tombe, en hommage respectueux, la fleur d’un lilas.
