Biography of Henri-Luc Hentom
Hentom is his artist name. Henri-Luc Tombini is a painter, graphic designer, sculptor and etcher. He is very young when he realizes he is strongly attracted to graphic art.
After a classic training at the Fine Arts School in Nancy then in an association issued from that same school - in which he eventually will become professor, he will become a self-taught painter, he mainly uses acrylic and pastel. The many researches he will actively lead in this domain will carry him to some realistic work mainly oriented on human body representation, nudes are a very important part of his work, but there will be also self-portraits and landscapes. Hentom feels a direct connection with a long chain of old centuries artists and his « traditional style » is meant to be a tribute to these artists. A duet exhibition with Philippe Andilla in 2012 in Pont-à-Mousson during the « Estivales des Arts » shows a large spectra of this expression. Hentom will create in 2012 a drawing and sculpting structure in Nancy, he values the task of handing over knwoledge and wants to share his creative and technical background he gathered over the years. « Starting with drawing is the first step towards all other means of graphic expression ».
His artistic tastes are eclectic and Hentom could mention many artists ranging from Alain de la Bourdonnaye, Tilman, Isaac Celnikier to Richard Mortensen. The list could be longer.
His open-mindedness soon leads him to abstraction and today this is his major area of expertise allowing him to explore all he wants. Hentom can’t take up a new technique without trying to look for previously unseen facets of it. Collages, experimental works, frescoes, wire works, etchings, embossings, inks, and watercolors will follow, each time in a more and more refined way. Always seeking for the crux of the matter, Hentom’s work keeps on tending torward a minimalist formalism.
