Biography of Henri Guibal
The painter-engraver Henri Guibal is educated at the School of Fine Art in Aix-en-Provence, his birthplace (1947). His art, colorful, is full of humor and fantasy. Regarding the engraving, the artist works on the relief, incorporating cut or torn paper during the process of collage press. "My approach is rooted in a world of smells, invisible songs, those of birds," says the artist. The theme of women - buxom - is recurrent in the work of Guibal, women who are astonished and marvel. With the desire to highlight the materiality of the painted support (relief, grooves, layers, etc.), the artist uses happily carborundum technique (invented by Henri Goetz), works with transparency, layer upon layer, often uses pastel in his prints. Henri Guibal takes obvious pleasure to handle, grind the material and the shape. He is a professor at the School of Fine Art of Clermont-Ferrand (Ecole des Beaux Arts de Clermont-Ferrand).
