Biography of Greg Genestine-Charlton
Growing up in a creative home, Greg was interested in cultural and creative sensibilities from an early age, often surrounded by family and friends who exposed him to enlightening insights into the creativity and work of inspiring artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Käthe Kollwitz, Francis Bacon, Paula Rego, Paul Gauguin and Marcel Duchamp.Greg Genestine-Charlton likes to use different media simultaneously, such as oil, acrylic, graphite, pastel and gouache on paper, whose layers offer transparencies that produce unusual patterns and textures. Experimentation with color is an integral part of her practice. The artist graduated in Fine Art Painting from Northbrook College, University of Brighton, in 2007. The teaching there was very free, allowing him to develop his own expression while encouraging the exchange of ideas and criticism with fellow students. Greg Genestine-Charlton then moved to London, where he continued to work, stimulated by a rich cultural environment. This stay enabled him to work enormously on his drawing and painting. He developed a fascination for capturing movement in his figurative works, which he then integrated into his abstract and scenic works. A sense of play is important in his work, and the unexpected drives his enthusiasm and pushes him to experiment further. From 2016 to 2019, Greg Genestine-Charlton will spend a long period in Spain, in Barcelona, where he continues his apprenticeship. New images, new sounds, he discovered a kind of new world. Catalonia thus had a strong impact on him and opened up a new path in his work. He embarked on another journey of experimentation, particularly in portraiture, which would have an impact on the many representations of his loved ones that he would later produce.Mainly based in London and Corrèze, his work has twice been selected for the summer exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, and selected for the annual SSA exhibition at the Royal Academy of Scotland. He has also exhibited with the New English Art Club at London's Mall Galleries.
