Biography of Francisco Zuniga
Francisco Zúñiga was born in 1912 in Costa Rica. His father, Manuel Maria Zúñiga was a sculptor. He is 23 when he moves to Mexico and works as a sculptor assistant in several studios. He discovers pre-hispanic art at the anthropology museum in Mexico city. He is already into monumental art pieces. In 1938, Zùñiga joins the teaching team of “La Esmeralda” a prestigious sculpting and painting Meexican school at the Fine Arts Institute in Mexico City where he stays until 1970. The artist works with Guillermo Ruiz, sculptor Oliverio Martinez and the painter Manuel Rodriguez Lozano. Zùñiga wins several sculpting first prizes all along his artistic career, From 1972, the artist devotes most of his time to graphic works mainly lithography. No matter how he expresses himself, he is always looking for human values. Flamboyant and sensual volumes give to each woman he represents (his main theme) a sense of sculptural and metaphysical perfection. The artist dies in Mexico City in 1998.
