Jules Pascin
I owe all to Vienna. At the beginning of the century I knew the new renaissance of Vienna, a sort of human fraternity by conventions.
Julius Pinkas, otherwise known as Jules Pascin, was born in Viddin, Bulargaria in 1885. He spent time in Vienna, Berlin, then Munich, and he was 20 when he moves to Paris in 1905. Paris is abundant with artists coming from around the world (Modigliani, Soutine, Picasso, Chagall, etc.); these last welcome him and he collaborates with them on several Parisian publications. Stamp by Jules Pascin
The publication of a postal stamp is often a homage paid by a nation to a place, an event, a remarkable cause or a character which count. The painters and other artists do not escape from this rule. Some are however "forgotten" of postal art. Here, gathered below (French or foreign), emitted stamps (206) or simple studies of stamp (224) in homage to the artists represented on our website. The first French stamp was emitted in 1849, England preceded us by ten years. There is often a share of voyage in this small form of shape paper. The stamp circulates, sails, flies away, it makes dream, then dream a little. M.C.
When the stamp is really emitted, the artist name is preceded of an asterisk (*). It is certain that we do not know each stamp emitted for such or such artist; do not hesitate with us to make known them!

A tribute to Jules Pascin

A l'âge de 45 ans, le 2 juin 1930, Pascin se suicide dans son atelier du 36, boulevard de Clichy. Tous ses amis viennent lui dire adieu. Kisling couche le mort sur le plancher devant le tableau “l’Enfant prodigue” ; Simone, Claudia, Jacqueline, Zina, Léa, Thérèse, Fernande, ses modèles devenues ses amies sont là également. Le 7 juin, pendant son enterrement, toutes les galeries de Paris sont fermées en signe de deuil. Pascin repose au cimetière Montparnasse (28ème division), sur la tombe est gravé un poème d’André Salmon : “Homme libre héros du songe et du désir de ses mains qui saignaient poussant les portes d’or esprit et chair Pascin dédaigna de choisir et maître de la vie il ordonna la mort”. Nous déposons, en hommage, un oeillet sur sa tombe.
