Alain de la Bourdonnaye is born in Paris in 1930. He becomes a student of Arpad Szenes and learns to engrave with Stanley William Hayter at Atelier 17. For many years the artist puts his art both at the service of painting, engraving and illustrated bbook, and later on devotes himself exclusively to the latter-mentioned area in 1982. Brilliant representative of the tradition of "the golden age of illustrated books", his talent and inventiveness award him the nickname of "architect of the book". In 1962, Alain de la Bourdonnaye enters the National Committee of the French illustrated book. Numerous solo exhibitions and an active participation in many exhibitions (Salon of Mai, Salon of abstract art, Salon of Comparisons, etc.), over time, show his work in France and abroad; as well, his works belong to this present day to the fifteen of the most prestigious collections in the world (BNF, Reserve of precious Books and Print Cabinet in Paris, Arsenal Library in Paris, etc.). "The book by Alain de la Bourdonnaye is a total work of art, the exceptional communion, harmonious and intimate, between literature and graphic art, between the word and the color, between the text and the matter: an incarnated poem" writes Christine Martinent. Engraver, printer- editor, the artist now divides his time between Paris and Le Gers.

A tribute to A. (de) La Bourdonnaye
- Marcelle Gautrot

Artists on display
The art and the artists display: proclamations, galleries, museums, personal or collective exhibitions. On walls or in shop windows, wise or rebels, posters warn, argue, show. Some were specially conceived by an artist for such or such event, other, colder, have only the letter.
Some were created in lithographic technic, most are simple offset reproductions. They are many those who like collecting these rectangles of paper, monochrome or in games of colours, in matt paper or brilliant, with many words or almost dumb.
We are happy also to be able to greet, by this pages, mythical galleries as those of Denise René, Louis Carré, Claude Bernard, Berheim Jeune, Maeght, Pierre Loeb and others.
