Biography of Bruno Baeriswyl
Bruno Baeriswyl was born in Fribourg (Switzerland) in 1941. The eleventh child of a family of twelve, his childhood was bathed in music. He did an apprenticeship in a cardboard factory, then worked as a freelance model maker for architectural offices in his native town (1960-1970). Parallel to his work, Bruno Baeriswyl devoted himself, as a self-taught person, to artistic creation and more particularly to painting. As a child, he was already fascinated by the work of the painter Ernest Riesemey, the milkman of his neighborhood, himself a self-taught artist. Little by little, Baeriswyl devoted himself definitively and exclusively to art. He received several federal grants for fine arts, a grant from the Canadian government (in 1971) which allowed him to spend a long time in this country. From 1974 to 1981, he directed (with Michel Ritter) the RB Gallery in Fribourg, which became a real showcase for contemporary creation. The artist, who liked to work by series and by themes, will be distinguished by several prizes and his work is part of Swiss museums and collections. The freedom of gesture, synonymous with the conquest of self and space, is the fundamental mark of the artist who died prematurely in 1996. "There is only what we do that exists" he used to say.

Artists on display
The art and the artists display: proclamations, galleries, museums, personal or collective exhibitions. On walls or in shop windows, wise or rebels, posters warn, argue, show. Some were specially conceived by an artist for such or such event, other, colder, have only the letter.
Some were created in lithographic technic, most are simple offset reproductions. They are many those who like collecting these rectangles of paper, monochrome or in games of colours, in matt paper or brilliant, with many words or almost dumb.
We are happy also to be able to greet, by this pages, mythical galleries as those of Denise René, Louis Carré, Claude Bernard, Berheim Jeune, Maeght, Pierre Loeb and others.
