Biography of Albert Bitran
Albert Bitran is born in Istanbul in 1931. He follows French and Turkish studies at the Saint-Michel high School in his hometown. At 17, he comes to Paris to study architecture that he quickly abandons to devote himself to painting. His first exhibition is organized in 1951 (Arnaud Gallery, Paris). He gets interested in the avant-garde movement and participates in numerous events dedicated to abstraction and especially to geometric abstraction. The young artist exhibits at the Denise Rene Gallery in 1954. Leaving geometric abstraction, Bitraan moves towards the research painting he pursues throughout his life (in this respect, one of his works is part of the « Lyrical Art » exhibition in the Luxembourg Museum in 2006). In 1958, Albert Bitran takes the French nationality. He spends long periods of time in Italy, where he works and exhibits. In Paris, the Ariel Gallery regularly shows his work. In 1962, the artist begins a graphic work (in the studio Mourlot); he produces etchings and lithographs. From 1961, year of his first exhibition at the Birch Gallery in Copenhagen, Scandinavia and the Netherlands show a great interest in his work. The work of Albert Bitran has been regularly exhibited in solo exhibitions in many galleries and museums of internationally renowned (Norway, Denmark, Netherlands, France, Austria, Germany, Japan, USA, Mexico, England, Turkey, etc.). In the early eighties, Bitran installs his studio in the Lot. Albert Bitran lives and works in Montrouge and Villerville in Normandy since 2000.
