American painter, of German origin, Richard Lindner was born in Hamburg in 1901. After studying music, he performed studies at the Arts and Crafts School in Nuremberg. He began his artistic career as an illustrator and a caricaturist, making cinema posters, advertising drawings and press illustrations. Then he came to Paris ; Richard Lindner was interested in surrealism and discovered the work of Fernand Leger, whose bright colored geometric shapes inspired his own creation. He moved to the United States in 1941, then later he became an American citizen. In the fifties, he decided to devote time to his painting, never locked in any artistic movement, but really close to Pop Art. « I'm particularly interested in the secret relation between man and woman », said the artist. In fact, the woman owned a central place in his work, a woman with assertive make-up, a sexual body and wearing accessories pushed towards an erotism almost fetishist. Lindner affirmed his style during the sixties and obtained a huge success, a style made with vivid and transparent colors. From that time, he was regarded as the precursor of Pop Art. His artwork is really influenced by the German expressionism movement. The artist died in 1978.

A tribute to Richard Lindner
- Saul Steinberg

Artists on display
The art and the artists display: proclamations, galleries, museums, personal or collective exhibitions. On walls or in shop windows, wise or rebels, posters warn, argue, show. Some were specially conceived by an artist for such or such event, other, colder, have only the letter.
Some were created in lithographic technic, most are simple offset reproductions. They are many those who like collecting these rectangles of paper, monochrome or in games of colours, in matt paper or brilliant, with many words or almost dumb.
We are happy also to be able to greet, by this pages, mythical galleries as those of Denise René, Louis Carré, Claude Bernard, Berheim Jeune, Maeght, Pierre Loeb and others.
