We gathered in this heading several artists who do not seem to us to
belong to the movements that we describe in addition. These artists do
not have anything commun run, setting besides their singularity. You
will find for each one of them (Barcelo, Buffet, Cocteau,
Danielis, Escher, Folon, Music, Reyberolle, Steinberg) a short biographical text while clicking on the links (previous text or next text).
Barcelo Miquel
“I am a specialist of life as a permanent crisis. I envy quiet lives.” Thus speaks Barcelo, whose art expresses itself through different media, painting, engraving, ceramics, sculpture, etc. He has three homes, Paris, Mali, and Mallorca (where he was born), travelling from one to the other, his three outposts, as he calls them, and where he works. In Mallorca, he does ceramics. It is where he showed his pieces at the Juan March de Palma Foundation in 2000. That same year, a retrospective was presented. 3His island” covered 20 years of works produced on paper.
Barcelo’s talent expresses itself indifferently in engravings, lithographies, and drawings. Whether on canvas or on paper, he recreates a spatial environment in which to experiment with with various natural materials.
Miquel Barcelo has already had shows at the New York Museum of Art, at the Musée du Jeu de Paume and Centre Pompidou in Paris, as well as other prestigious venues dedicated to 20th century art. Today the most respected art institutions are proud to possess some of his works.
Barcelo certainly remains outside of any artistic movement, and understanbly so: at 18, he spent just a few months at the Barcelona School of Fine Arts and then never attended any other art classes!

Index chosen on the movements, important currents and events in the XX 2nd century art
I wanted to give here, with 46 various short introductions, some general elements on the movements or currents of art, groups or exhibitions, which concern the artists whose works are presented in gallery or were it recently. The table, above, will make it possible to visually locate the periods or dates in time.
Each entry is followed of a list of the principal artists belonging to the movement or current. It may be that there is only one simple relationship between such or such artist and the movement in which in theory one locates it (Click on the names in blue to reveal work or works currently in stock).
It will be understood, some movements are represented much than of others in my gallery. The same artist will be often found in several movements (as each one knows it, it was thus).
Although these some introductions, briefly developed, are not addressed to the specialists, they will forgive me the few lapses of memory or choices which would lend to discussion. I hope that these tiny introductions will be however useful to some of you. Michelle Champetier
