Painter, raphic artist, stage designer, Willi Baumeister is born in 1889 in Stuttgart (Germany).After an apprenticeship as a painter and decorator (1905-1907), he receives training at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in his hometown (1905-1911). He is the friend of Julius Bissier, meets Fernand Leger, Le Corbusier, Ozenfant and many others in Paris (1929), becoming member of the Association Cercle et Carré (Cercle and Square). In 1931, the artist joins theAbstraction-Creation group. In 1938, he participates in the exhibition "Twentieth Century German Art" in London and meets Hans Arp, Sophie Taeuber-Arp, Joan Miro and Wassily Kandinsky. Baumeister is one of the most important representatives of German modern art and an avant-garde of the late forties and fifties. ioneered artist of international recognition, his multiple works opens countless ways in the artistic production of his time. illi Baumeister, who never practices the abstraction for itself, does not cease considering man and human being as the ultimate spring of creation. he artist is professor in various Academies, while developing a theoretical reflection of wide-ranging plan. He dies in Stuttgart in 1955.
