Biography of Claude Viallat
The painter Claude Viallat is born in Nimes in 1936. He studies in the Schools of Fine Arts in Montpellier (1955-59), then in Paris (1962-63). In 1966, Claude Viallat adopts a method based on fingerprints, which included him in a radical critique of geometric and lyrical abstraction; a neutral shape, neither natural nor geometric, is repeated on a free canvas, without frame, determining the composition of the work. Claude Viallat participates in the adventure of Supports/Surfaces Group which he is a founding member (1969); his "work", a term that the group opposed to "art" or "artistic creativity" is based on the repetition of a simple form. The artist relies upon multiple references (Matisse, Picasso, Hantaï, Pollock, Sam Francis and Kenneth Noland, etc.). The Art of Claude Viallat is characterized by the sumptuousness of color, which imposes him as one of the great contemporaries colorists. More recently, Claude Viallat expresses himself thought flat rectangular or square surfaces, preferring an outburst of internal components, always putting more emphasis on the relationship of density, intensity, brightness between the colored areas. The works of Claude Viallat have been exhibited in most major museums in Europe, America and Asia dedicated to the presentation of modern and contemporary art, and he figures in most major public and private collections.

Artists on display
The art and the artists display: proclamations, galleries, museums, personal or collective exhibitions. On walls or in shop windows, wise or rebels, posters warn, argue, show. Some were specially conceived by an artist for such or such event, other, colder, have only the letter.
Some were created in lithographic technic, most are simple offset reproductions. They are many those who like collecting these rectangles of paper, monochrome or in games of colours, in matt paper or brilliant, with many words or almost dumb.
We are happy also to be able to greet, by this pages, mythical galleries as those of Denise René, Louis Carré, Claude Bernard, Berheim Jeune, Maeght, Pierre Loeb and others.
