Friedrich Stowasser, born in 1928 in Vienna was a painter, a thinker and a architect. He choses the name of Friedensreich Hundertwasser meaning « the peace kingdom with hundred waters ». He defines himself as an « architecture doctor » (a manifesto claimed in 1980, on January 24th ). He considers New Zealand his new country and his boat (Regentag – Raniny day) his home. His message is deeply ecological and very early gets expressed in remarkable performances such as ecological, artistical and architectural manifestos but also in all of his accomplishments (paintings, posters, houses, architectures or books). In that way, Hundertwasser is unclassifiable and strongly influenced by a deep love for nature, thus becoming one of the great pioneers of humanist and environmental architecture in an attempt to conciliate both artistic creation and ecology. His pictural work is characterized by the abundance of organic shapes and relies on colors shininess. Hundertwasser died early in 2000. He used to say : « Fine Arts must be fine, but painters don't have to know how to paint ».
