Louis Marcoussis - his real name was Ludwig Casimir Ladislas Markus until 1912 - was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1878. In 1901, he gave up his law studies in Warsaw, to study painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. At the age of 25, in 1903, he goes to Paris.
