Painter and engraver, Ferdinand Springer was born in Berlin in 1907. He went to the high school in Postdam then he studied Art History at the University in Zurich in 1926. He travelled for the first time in Italy in 1923. He met R. M. Rilke in Lucerne the same year. Soon the young man left his family who were scientific publishers.
